As of today I am right on schedule. I finished The U.S.S. Ronald Reagan, Book 2 of my WIP This Broken Earth. This book is a little over half the length of Book 1, but is packed with constant action that does not seem to let up for a moment. I think I will have to go back and insert some comic relief.
I intended Book 2 to be the Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy, in that the bad guys really raise their ugly heads and we get to see the nefarious nature of several new characters as well as a few characters in the first book. I found that this worked well for the story even if I went to some very dark places as a writer. I do not want to give anything away as I know several people have read the first book and want zero spoilers, so I will not feed that shark just yet.
Book 2 will release on several formats on October 31st as planned, which will give me enough time to do the following:
1. Edit – I will do several read-throughs for flow, dialogue, continuity, style, and all those other things that an English degree demands I correct. This will take around two weeks.
2. Test Readers – I will shoot the working draft to my various readers who will preview the book and give feedback in usually three to four days. They have already cleared their schedules for three or four days and will get back to me shortly after I give them the text with their valuable input.
3. Final Edit – I will go through and make any suggested changes to the text after meeting with my test readers and then prepare the various versions of the e-edition which should go live on October 31st.
Wish me luck!
Woo, good luck! 🙂 I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far, looking forward to the next section.
Sounds daunting Roger. But, if anyone can do it, it’s you. Keep going!
Whoo! Tight schedule. Best of luck. My book two is up for my betas at the end of October for publishing on Jan 10. I leave an extra month in case my betas go all ‘free-range-chicken’ on me!
(I like my book two better than my book one. You definitely want to stay away from middle book syndrome!)
