As I write this it is 10:20pm Central Standard Time in the United States, and I’m pretty sure we will be here tomorrow, at least I hope we will. The final part of my book releases tomorrow! It has been a long 18 months of work, but I finally get to see the whole thing come together as a finished story.
In January I’ll release the whole thing as one book, shoot it to iTunes, get it on Nook and Kindle and in a print edition through Createspace. Then I start the book signings and the virtual book tours…all the while writing a lovely time travel piece I’ve been kicking around.
Of course there’s that Transgression Box one shot sequel I have to write…
OK. On with the mayhem. Today’s apocalyptic scenario is: God Judges Man
The Bible is a wonderful book, and is more than that to me…namely the Word of God. In this day and age when we have to be politically correct and not offend anyone, I stand by its principles and as a Christian use it to guide my life, to know what to do, and to basically learn how to be a man of peace. It makes me a better writer, it makes me a better father, it makes me a better husband, and it gives me peace and comfort when I’m facing horrible circumstances.
But then there’s that chapter at the end in that book at the end that we all know so well. Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins wrote an entire series of novels based on what they think it means. Hank Hanegraff wrote an entire book detailing what he thinks it means. I gave up and wrote a novel This Broken Earth that was originally intended to be about what I thought it meant, but then settled on using it as a backdrop to tell a better story about the meaning of faith. I mean, the story has been told. You can read it in that book at the end of THE BOOK.
In chapter 20 of Revelation, verses 11-15 (NIV) it states:
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the deadthat were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Yeah that’s pretty scary stuff. I wrote about this in the next to the last chapter of my book and it gave me goosebumps as I was writing it. Imagine all mankind standing before a great white throne of judgement to be judged for their wrongdoing…or their good deeds. Of course the New Testament message is not that cut and dried. It’s more about the choice made about Jesus that decides the fate of each individual person. In this passage one might think that God is being some type of tyrant or oppressor, but really when you go to court and the judge hears your case and then pronounces judgement is the judge a tyrant or an oppressor if we are guilty of a crime?
This scene depicted above is the more final “end of the world” scenario, because it doesn’t matter if robots take over, we have another world war or we get wiped out by a plague. It is what happens after all that has happened. It is the end of the end…or the beginning of a new life…depending entirely on a decision that has been made by the individual.
