Avengers Assemble: Our Evening at the Avengers Premiere

Loki and Captain America have a nerd fight at the Avengers Movie premiere.

As most of you know who follow this blog, I built a ’40’s era Captain America costume and a Bucky Barnes costume for my son Conner.  We descended on the Avengers premiere Friday night at the Moore, Oklahoma Warren Theater to find a line of people circling the building for the 7:00pm 3d IMAX show.

Red Skull taking time to tie his shoe. We can’t have evil tripping over it’s shoelaces, now can we?

We stood around outside in our gear, chatting it up with fans and letting them take pictures with us before we realized that our other friends were inside the lobby wearing their own costumes.  Present were two other versions of Captain America (movie and camouflage version), Wasp, Loki, Iron Man, Tony Stark & Pepper Potts, Red Skull and Black Widow.  We stood in the lobby as people exited the theater from the 4:00 show and they took pictures with all of us.

Tony Stark (Brian Weeks) was the life of the party.

We were asked by the management to go to each theater letting out guests after viewing the film.  We stood together and watched the flashbulbs on phones blinking and greeted the little kids whose eyes widened at seeing their heroes in the flesh.  Mr. Tony Stark (fashionably late) sauntered around, chewing gum, sipping on a small glass of tea that looked remarkably like scotch and hit on all the girls.  His arc reactor glowed brightly beneath his button down shirt.  He also carried a remarkable reproduction of the Iron Man 2 armor briefcase.

Ryan McKinley’s Loki costume was absolutely incredible.  From screenshots of the trailer and looking up the costume on-line, he was able to fabricate an incredibly accurate facsimile of the original.  Along the lapels and down the front sides of the coat were literally hundreds of small squeeze together clasps that decorated the edges.  The costume had leather pieces, styrene artwork and incredible etching that took weeks to complete.  The spats were of thick leather with buckles and rivets.

After nearly five hours entertaining the crowd it was time to go to the 10:00pm IMAX 3d show.  I had purchased tickets weeks in advance on-line.  The manager approached us and said that he would be comping all of our tickets for the 10:00pm show.  When I told him that I had already purchased them, he pointed us to the ticket counter where we received a full refund.  We saw the movie in IMAX 3D, sitting among friends, Avengers assembled, and a great time was had by all.
