Little Axe Softball Girls 3-Peat at Oklahoma State Championship

Last Friday we all piled on the buses to attend the Oklahoma State High School Softball Championship games held at the Oklahoma Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.  Many of my students were on the field that day and then the following Saturday.  We all cheered until our throats became hoarse, and our girlsContinue reading “Little Axe Softball Girls 3-Peat at Oklahoma State Championship”

NHRA Drag Racing: A Weekend Out With the Boys

This is the third year my son and I have made the trek to Ennis, Texas to watch in awe as top fuel nitromethane dragsters blow down the track, vibrating the hair on our arms, punching us in the chest and causing all of the car alarms in the parking lot to sound in a chorus ofContinue reading “NHRA Drag Racing: A Weekend Out With the Boys”

The Great Fire of 2012: Tense Moments and Sheer Miracles

Thursday afternoon we had driven to Norman to do some shopping, and as we were driving to Academy Sports to purchase shoes for my children for the first day of school, we looked back toward our home and saw a giant plume of smoke. My family and I live in a very heavily forested area,Continue reading “The Great Fire of 2012: Tense Moments and Sheer Miracles”

What Boy Scouts Inadvertently Taught Me About Being a Dad

I returned early from the Boy Scout campout at Slippery Falls Ranch in Tishomingo, and I’ll have to say that my son and I were disappointed in the experience (at least the part involving Boy Scouts).  For example, in order for a scout to carry a pocket knife around, he has to endure a 3Continue reading “What Boy Scouts Inadvertently Taught Me About Being a Dad”

10 Cheap Yet Fun Summer Activities for Kids

Summer is here, and if you are like me, the money isn’t there for trips to the zoo, water parks or amusement parks.  What to do?  Kids need stimulation, and will get bored very quickly sitting around playing video games and watching television.  These two activities are the biggest time wasters and usually do notContinue reading “10 Cheap Yet Fun Summer Activities for Kids”

Shad’s Catfish Hole: An Out of the Way Restaurant Review

Friday night I ended up in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on our way to my sister’s graduation commencement at Carl Albert State College.  Everyone was going to Shad’s Catfish Hole for dinner, and we soon found ourselves a few miles off the highway at an un-assuming blue building with a large catfish painted on the front.  A horse,Continue reading “Shad’s Catfish Hole: An Out of the Way Restaurant Review”

Happy Mother’s Day: A Tribute to the Moms in My Life

Today is Mother’s Day, and if you are walking this earth you have a mom to thank for it.  Today I thought I would pay tribute to all of the moms in my life by telling all of you a little bit about why their praise is so well deserved. Of course, I must thankContinue reading “Happy Mother’s Day: A Tribute to the Moms in My Life”

Captain America Makes His First Appearance…at Walmart

Today was a great day.  I premiered my hand made Captain America and Bucky costumes at the H.U.G.s Project fundraiser at the Belle Isle Walmart in Edmond, Oklahoma.  We received many compliments, my goggles continually fogged up, I heard some great stories and hopefully helped our American servicemen and women receive much needed care packages.Continue reading “Captain America Makes His First Appearance…at Walmart”
